Mysore starch manufacturing company was established in the year 1946 by late founder Mr M.Sathyanarayan on a small scale. Soon the potential and demand increased in the later years and in order to cope up the demand, the company transformed itself into a medium scale industry and now at present company is recognized as largest manufactures of tamarind seed starches.

History known as our late founder was a pioneer in setting up tamarind seed starch processing industry in India and first known person to semi automate the tamarind seed (kernel) powder manufacturing process by trial and error. Further certainly the product history talks about the pre independence era of India during the same period the low agriculture yields had pushed India to depend on other countries for food requirements and tamarind fruit being one of the horticulture product post harvest tamarind seeds were thrown away as agricultural waste, during those times our late founder Mr.M.Sathyanarayan realised that tamarind seeds can be utilized and post processing it can be used as an excellent sizing material and tuned into valuable product as “ Tamarind seed starch” to such great extend that larger textiles and jute companies started replacing other food grain starches by Tamarind seed based starches for sizing purposes, which in turn made a successful entrepreneur journey for the entire generation of The Mysore Starch Manufacturing Company..

Further in the year 1970, Mysore starch manufacturing company began exporting tamarind kernel powder to other countries due to other vast application and usages associated with tamarind kernel powder and we were the first known companies to export tamarind kernel powder (Starches) outside India. Latex creaming

Coagulation process is the aim of creaming is to produce latex and with increased values of such parameters this means that creaming is more effective using tamarind seed powder than using sodium alginate. Given the fact that tamarind seeds powder are renewable materials which can be grown agriculturally to satisfy desired demand, the prospects for using them seems more attractive than using sodium alginate.

Process for using tamarind seed (kernel) powder in rubber latex creaming industry:

The Tamarind kernels are grounded to obtain tamarind seed (kernel) powder, where each 3.0 g of the tamarind seed powder is dispersed in distilled water (100 cm3) (pH 7.88) in a beaker and the dispersion will be boiled on a hot plate for 1 h with continuous stirring, thus yielding a solution. 0.75 cm3 of the tamarind seed powder solution (creaming agent) which will be further transferred into a 500 cm3 beaker containing 250 cm3 of the latex. The beaker will be covered and left to stand undisturbed in a safe place for 48 hours. After 48 hours phase separation takes place and water being slightly denser than rubber existed at the bottom of the beaker thus rubber particles will be swelled and rise to the top and separated.

Creamed Latex

The processing of latex into creamed concentrates involves the mixing of a creaming agent such as ammonium alginate or cooked tamarind seed powder with properly preserved field latex and allowing the latex to separate into two layers, an upper layer of concentrated latex and lower layer of serum containing very little rubber. The lower layer is removed, leaving the latex concentrate of 50%-55% drc which is tested, packed and marketed.

This review focuses on the diversity of applications of TSP. Natural products always take over synthetic ones due to their easy availability, non toxicity, capability of chemical modifications, potential biodegradability and biocompatibility property, as compared to the expensive synthetic polymers with environment-related issues, long development time for synthesis and toxicity which makes them undesirable. Nowadays, natural gums which obtained mainly from seeds have become a thrust area in majority of investigations in drug delivery systems, switching from the synthetic excipients available in the market. Natural tamarind Gum is a polysaccharide complex with sugar and uronic acid units. It is a metabolic by product of plant cell wall produced in higher plants as a protection after injury. These tamarind gums can be classified as anionic and non-ionic polysaccharides or salts of polysaccharides or as hydrophobic and hydrophilic. Natural tamarind Gum have been widely used as tablet binders, stabilisers, thickeners, gelling agents, film-forming agents, release retardants, etc.

Tamarind seed powder is used in animal and pet industry due to the properties it exhibits; Tamarind seed powder retains moisture content when used along feed food which further increases the stability of the feed.
